The signature herbal drink hailing from Laifeng county, Enshi, Hubei province was introduced by Yuan Jie, promoter of Laifeng vine tea at Bajiaoxi Youbin Planting & Breeding Professional Cooperative of the county, during an exclusive interview with China Daily Website.
Laifeng vine tea is a premium herbal beverage rooted in China's food-medicine homology tradition. Its distinctive natural white frost covering tea leaves consists mainly of flavonoids, also known as dihydromyricetin. The thicker the white frost, the sweeter and longer-lasting the aftertaste, according to Yuan.
"We are from the World Capital of Selenium," Yuan noted. Benefiting from selenium-rich local soil, Laifeng vine tea contains natural selenium, 17 amino acids and diverse trace elements. Hand-planted and hand-harvested, the tea is grown without pesticides for pure natural quality.
🍵 Brewing Guide: Yuan advises that there is no need to rinse tea leaves. Brew with water above 95°C. The first infusion releases over 85 percent of flavonoids, and the same batch can be re-steeped three to four times. Fresh leaves can be stir-fried with eggs or vegetables. Spent tea leaves can be reused; strongly-brewed tea may soothe discomforts such as mouth ulcers.
🛒 Buying Tips: "If you are new to this tea, start with small trial packs," Yuan suggested. "If you enjoy it, go for full-size packs for repurchase." Look for thick, intact white frost on leaves as a key quality marker.
